Get ready to groove because the one and only Teri Tobin is back as this year’s emcee! She’ll be setting the vibe for the whole night and, word has it, will also grace us with a performance! And to keep that energy sky-high, DJ Panic & DJ Akshen will be on the decks, spinning live sets that will have you moving and grooving non-stop.

Feel the Rhythm & Poetry:

Prepare to be amazed by some serious talent! The incredible Furious Styles Crew will be hosting electrifying hip-hop dance battles. These dancers bring the heat, and rumor has it they might even open up the floor for YOU to jump in and show off your moves! For moments of powerful reflection, Urban Poet will deliver soul-stirring spoken word performances that are sure to resonate deeply. And don’t miss SouthWest Steppaz, who are putting a fresh, modern spin on line dancing, blending the heart of R&B, a touch of country, and the undeniable rhythm of Black culture into something uniquely their own.

Step Into History & Art:

This is where the celebration gets truly deep and interactive. You’ll have the chance to engage with history and art in some incredibly innovative ways:

“Traveling While Black”: This isn’t just a history lesson; it’s an award-winning Virtual Reality journey that places you right into the lived experiences of Black travelers during the Jim Crow era. It’s a powerful, 15-minute experience designed to foster understanding and dialogue about the realities of navigating race and mobility in America.
“The Porch”: Step into a unique, Southern-inspired storytelling space. Here, you can listen to the voices of Black elders as they share their personal memories of segregation, resilience, resistance, and triumph. Local leaders will also offer reflections, and you’ll even be invited to contribute your own stories for the future.
“The Light We Carry”: Get creative with this guided, interactive art installation led by talented local artist Zybrena Porter. You’ll be invited to reflect on the “light” you carry within yourself and write your words on paper flame cutouts. These flames will then be added to a glowing trellis of suspended lanterns, creating a beautiful, evolving piece of art that represents different facets of the Black experience and our collective strength. These experiences show a commitment to more than just entertainment; they offer pathways to understanding and connection, making the event profoundly impactful.

Non-Stop Fun & Games:

Lace up your skates because Zoni Girls are bringing a pop-up roller rink that’s open to all ages! Get ready to glide and groove under the stars.
The excitement is building for the semifinals and finals of the Barber Battle! What started as a highlight at last year’s Juneteenth Block Party has grown into the Downtown Tempe Barber Battle, and now the top barbers are ready to compete for the crown. You’ll get to see who takes it all!

Want to chill and strategize? Classic games like Spades and Chess will be available for some friendly competition.
